In
the south, virgin forests of Longleaf Pine once covered nearly
70 million acres.
Averaging 150 miles in width, these majestic forests ran from
Virginia to central Florida, and westward along the gulf coast
as far as Texas. Many of these trees reached to heights of 175
feet and took from 150 - 400 years to mature.
Because of its unique beauty and strength, Heart Pine was used
in public buildings, private homes and plantations as well as
larger construction. Most early homes in the South used Heart
Pine for flooring, furniture and cabinetry. By the turn of the
century, virtually all of these trees had been harvested and used
in the building of factories and warehouses throughout America.
Many
people across the country are now rediscovering the natural beauty
of Heart Pine. Because of its high content of
heart wood, Heart Pine has a tight growth ring pattern and a unique
red - amber color. Reclaimed from the Old Cannon Mills in Kannapolis,
NC, this century old lumber is carefully cut and re-manufactured
into a beautiful and durable flooring product. This product is
sliced into an 1/8” veneer and backed with a Birch plywood
substrate. Because of this manufacturing process, stability is
dramatically enhanced to eliminate gapping and movement of the
wood and allows easy installation over concrete, radiant heat,
or in basements. Floating, Glue-down, or nail-down applications
are all acceptable with this unique flooring product. No acclimation
necessary.
